Use this Approach
1. Know: Obtain information on resources that support adoption in your community through the Internet and through others around you who have experienced adoption in some way. As you obtain information about adoption, make sure it comes from honest and reputable sources, and only advocate those. There are many adoption agencies and attorneys out there; only promote those who focus on providing parenting assistance or support to birth mothers who are undecided in their decision. Also, make sure you know about adoption in general, as well as the issues surrounding abortion. Be well educated on those two topics before you talk about them.
2. Show: Build relationships and target the audience you want to inspire. Use the knowledge you have obtained to show others the truth about adoption—that it’s a rewarding option for an unplanned pregnancy. Have conversations with your friends and peers over coffee or during dinner parties to familiarize them with the option of adoption. Weave the topic of adoption into the fabric of everything you know and talk about; people want to be informed and inspired.
3. Grow: Look around your community for resources and people who are backing the cause you’re looking to champion. Get your church, school, neighborhood, or workplace involved in partnering with reliable local or national adoption agencies. Volunteer alongside pro-adoption organizations and other members of your community to promote your message. Ask yourself useful questions, such as: How has adoption affected my view on life? How can I integrate the topic of adoption into my daily activities? How can I make an impact by spreading the word about adoption as the only fulfilling option for an unplanned pregnancy?
